The Brooks funeral home of Langdon has expanded it’s product and services offering.

Marnie Brooks of the Brooks Funeral Home is pleased to announce the opening of Treasures. Located just inside the Brooks Funeral Home, the shop is intended to provide customized, personalized and meaningful products and services. From personalized DVD video productions to Teddy Bears with Lockets, there is a wide variety of options.

While attending a National Funeral Directors Association Convention she was exposed to a number of companies who specialized in custom made comfort products that could be personalized with a photo or information. It was Marnie’s feeling that the members of her community would find value in these products. She decided to dedicate a small part of the facility to meaningful products. At first the focus was on those who had lost a family member. As she sought out items that were able to be customized, she realized that these items were often meant for those currently part of our lives, not necessarily for those we had lost. It became clear that we have a want to personalize items for both those living and those we may have lost. The scope of the shop became broader. We treasure all members of our families and that is how the name Treasures came about.

For example, the Funeral Home has begun a program where an individual can send in flowers after the funeral to be made into a candle or lamp. When the information arrived, it noted that many moms made their mother’s day flowers into candles, brides made their bouquets into candles; they can be used for anniversaries, graduations, etc. It is a beautiful and meaningful way to extend the life of any flowers.

Jewelry is another product that can capture meaning throughout our lives. A handprint or footprint from a new life can be placed on a pendant for a new mom or a tie tack for a new dad. At the other end of the spectrum, a fingerprint can be taken of someone who has just passed away and a pendant can be made for family members who this person left their imprint upon. There are also photo necklaces and bracelets that someone could use to hold pictures of their grandchildren or anyone else they find special.

TreasuresCustom Candles are available to commemorate any person place or event. With the entire candle being made from scratch, any photo or wording can be added. From sports candles to the birth of a baby, anniversary and memory candles, the options are limitless. We have found that many people have found these to be meaningful gifts.

There are a number of Teddy Bears in Treasures. The primary focus of the bears is to provide some comfort to kids who have experienced loss. They provide the kids with something warm and fuzzy to hold onto during the funeral and after. There are also tiny teddy bears to give to someone you care about. Every time they need a hug, they can give the little bear and squeeze and know you care. There is also a variety of metal art.

Framed photos with verses are also available as a meaningful gift option or something meaningful for us. They have verses about moms and dads and even families.

Treasures also holds some cemetery items. It can be meaningful for some families to add vases or a photo to their loved ones monument. A color photo in porcelain can be added at any time to an existing marker. When we visit a gravesite, it can be especially meaningful to see the image of the person we are there for. Vases are beginning to be a common part of monuments as well. There are many types and shapes and colors to choose from. Traditionally, flowers placed at a gravesite on Memorial Day were removed by maintenance staff for ease of mowing. If flowers are in vases, they are not removed and flowers can be left throughout the entire year. There are also cemetery solar crosses and military stars that hold flags for a veteran.

Kay Berry makes a line of engraved rocks Treasuresthat we carry. They hold meaningful verses and can be placed in flower gardens or even at a gravesite. These stones may be sent to a family at the time of the funeral and would be placed on an easel that could also have a floral spray attached to it.

Veterans framed photos are also available at treasures, along with flag cases and military themed candles.

Because pets become important members of the family to many of you, we also offer pet memorial products.

Many of the items are intended to comfort, but others are intended to celebrate those we hold closest to us. It is Marnie’s hope that these items can help people celebrate, nurture families and be a meaningful reflection of those people we treasure most.
