Martha Medalen, 86, of Nekoma, ND passed away Monday November 13, 2006 at the Sheyanne Care Center of Valley City, ND.

Martha Marie Hefta was born August 11, 1920 at Nekoma, ND to Henry and Thea (Sabie) Hefta.  She grew up and went to school in Nekoma, graduating as Valedictorian of her class.  She was united in marriage to Henry Medalen on September 4, 1938 at Nekoma Lutheran Church and they made their home on a farm two miles east of Nekoma where they farmed and raised their family.  Martha was active in both the Highland Lutheran Church of rural Fairdale and later the Nekoma Lutheran Church in which she held several offices.  Martha made numerous friends through her many volunteer activities in her community, county and the surrounding area.  Henry passed away on July 18, 1978.

Martha is survived by her children: Helen (David) Duncan, Cedar Falls, Iowa; Ruth (Kenneth) Urdahl, Jamestown, ND; Alice (Richard) Spenst, Roosevelt, MN; Robert (Sandy) Medalen, Fargo, ND; Luella (Fred) Rance, Webster, ND; Edie (Jerry) Schmidt, Valley City, ND; Marc (Melonie) Medalen, Rapid City, SD; David Medalen (Jacque) Medalen of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada; 22 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, sisters: Helen Holum, Mayville, ND and Inez (Don) Manbeck, Phoenix, AZ, sisters-in-law Viola Hefta, Owasso, OK and Ordale Hefta, Peoria, AZ, and brother-in-law Sherman Moen of Mahtomedi, MN.

She was preceded in death by her husband Henry, infant son Kenneth, great grandchild Tyce Musgrave, sisters Ingaborg Hefta, Lillian Moen, Caroline Moritz, and brothers, Rev. Joseph Hefta, Oliver Hefta, and Vernon Hefta.

VISITATION will begin Friday November 17, 2006 at 10:00am and continue throughout the day with a 7:00pm Prayer Service that evening all at the Brooks Funeral Home, Langdon, ND.

Visitation will also take place for one hour at the church Saturday beginning at 12:00 noon.

A procession will leave the church at 1:00pm for burial at Highland Cemetery, rural Fairdale. we will then return to the church for the 2:00pm Church Services.

SERVICES  Saturday November 18, 2006 at 2:00pm at the Nekoma Lutheran Church of Nekoma, ND.

INTERMENT   Highland Cemetery, rural Fairdale, ND.
