Marian A. Koehmstedt

Marian A. Koehmstedt, 88, Langdon died Sunday April 27, 2008 at the Cavalier County Memorial Hospital of Langdon, ND.

She was preceded in death by her husband Francis, son Kenneth, four sisters and one brother. 

Marian was born Marian Adeline Aagard September 11, 1919 the daughter of Charles and Lillian Aagard at Rapid City, South Dakota.  As a young woman, she lived in Rapid City and worked in retail accounting until she met Francis Koehmstedt who was stationed in the Army Air Force in Rapid City, and married him on Nov. 4, 1943. They moved with the armed services living in Florida, Oklahoma and Rapid City until they moved to Francis’ grandmother’s farm north of Langdon in 1948.  Francis built a house in Langdon and they moved there in 1953.  Marian was an important business partner with Francis in the various businesses they owned and operated over the next 50 years:  Koehmstedt Plumbing and Heating, Our Own Hardware and several property development and management projects in Langdon.  In addition, Marian was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and Women’s Auxiliary, she was a 50 plus year member of the Friendship Homemakers Club holding various offices.  She was a wonderful cook, a skilled seamstress, an avid reader, and many have enjoyed her quilting, crocheting and knitting over the years. Both she and Francis were partners in gardening and woodworking, she was a loving mother to Kenny, Susan and Kristy and a friend to many.

She is survived by daughters, Susan (Paul) Geisen, Brentwood, TN, Kristy (Tim) Brown, Milford, Mich.; six grandchildren Adam (Toni) Geisen, Maryville, Illinois, Peter Geisen, Durham, NC, Matthew (Angela) Brown, Whitmore Lake, MI, Jason Brown, Milford, MI, Kelly (Lisa) Koehmstedt, Morehead, MN, Korie Koehmstedt Chesney, Covington, LA, and seven great grandchildren, nieces Bonny Lou (Ross) Jordan, Sturgis, S. Dak. and Patty Burnette, Rapid City, S. Dak., brother-in-law Stanley Koehmstedt, Langdon, daughter-in-law Bonnie Koehmstedt, Covington, LA, dear and devoted friends Doris Hoffarth, Annette Loewen and Pete and Leah Klingbeil, faithful nieces Helen Rose and Nola Borgen, and many other nieces and nephews from the Koehmstedt family.

Services:  St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Langdon at 1:00pm on Wednesday April 30, 2008.

Visitation: Will begin at 3pm with a 6pm prayer service on Monday, April 28, 2008 all at the Brooks Funeral Home, Langdon.

Burial:  Calvary Cemetery, Langdon. 

Memorials are suggested to Cavalier County Public Health Nurses, Cavalier County Memorial Hospital and/or the Companion Care Program, and Maple Manor Care Center.

So sorry to be out of town... I send my sincere sympathy to you in the passing of your Mom... I remember all the coffee times with her at Grandma Clara's....
