Luann Ashpole
Luann Ashpole

Luann (Dawley) Ashpole, 42, passed away January 5, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Paul, MN.

Luann Grace was born June 12, 1965 at Devils Lake, ND to Vincent and Lois (Wirth) Dawley.  Luann was a farm girl at heart.  She thoroughly loved the country life of growing up on the farm.  Luann could always be found just one step behind her dad, helping to care for all the animals.  She was educated at Munich and went on to graduate from the University of Minnesota at Crookston.  While in college in 1984 she met Steve Ashpole.  They were married on July 23, 1988 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Munich, ND.  They enjoyed their married life, filling it with time together spent hunting and going to concerts.  It would be ten years of marriage before they took the leap into parenthood.  Once daughter Haley arrived, they wondered why they hadn’t become parents earlier.  Their joy continued to grow as Grace and then Clare joined the family. Their life revolved around the girls and spending time as a family.  They fulfilled their yearning for country living in the fall of 2005 when they experienced the joy of purchasing a home in the country outside Edinburg, ND.  Luann had her farm and country living to share with her family.  She enjoyed mowing the five acres, often returning covered with dirt, but with a bright white smile.  Steve and Luann took a lot of pleasure in sharing the country life with their girls and were especially grateful to live so close to both of the girls’ grandparents.  They spent a lot of time together with family and appreciated that the girls were fostering such a close relationship with their grandparents.  Some of the things Luann and Steve had enjoyed before they had kids, only became more fun with kids, like hunting, visiting the farm at harvest and watching the Dallas Cowboys.

Luann is survived by her husband Steve, daughters Haley, age 9, Grace, age 5 and Clare age 2, all of Edinburg, ND, her mother and father, Vincent and Lois Dawley of Munich, ND, brothers and sisters:  Bonnie (Mark) Hanson of Chelan, WA; Kevin (Debbie) Dawley of Munich, ND; Donna (Gerry) Gannon of Everett, WA; Diane (Brad) Barth of Osakis, MN and Marti (Greg) DeBilzan of Lino Lakes, MN, nieces and nephews; Erik, Marit, Kyle, Courtney, Gretchen, Travis, Kelsey, Kayla, Tara, Tyler, Trevor, Anna and Julie, Matthew, Nicole, Jason, Colby, Chase, great-nephews Kaamon and Marley Hanson, mother-in-law Bea Ashpole of Hensel, ND.

Please take heart Steve. We know not why bad things happen to very good young people, but we do know that God will not let us carry a burden too heavy. Lay your sorrow at Jesus feet, and remember many of us will have you, and your dear family in our prayers. God bless you all.
