Harry Nelson, 86, longtime Langdon, ND resident, passed away August 22, 2007 in Grand Forks, ND.

Harry Leonard Nelson was born February 1, 1921 to G.E. and Eunice (Knauss) Nelson at McVille, ND.  He moved to Grand Forks, ND with his parents at age 14, where he went on to graduate from Grand Forks Central in the class of 1939.  He enrolled at the University of North Dakota and graduated in 1943.  Harry and Eileen Donovan were united in marriage on November 12, 1943 in Chicago, IL.  Having enlisted in the naval reserve in 1942, they went on to live in Miami, FL and Columbus OH while Harry was attending Navy Schools.  He was assigned to sea duty in 1944 and Eileen moved home to Langdon to be with her parents.  After his Honorable Discharge in 1946 they lived for a year in Minneapolis, MN before coming to Langdon in 1947.  He was with IDS Investments for 30 years and was active in his church and in civic organizations.  He served as clerk of the school board for nearly 17 years and was also a member of the WWII Last Man’s Company where he had served as Captain.

He is survived by his wife Eileen (Donovan) Nelson of Grand Forks, ND, son Tom of Nashville, TN, daughter Kathy of Wahpeton, sister-in-law Jane (Jack) Traynor of Devils Lake, ND and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Fred, sister Dorothy, sister-in-law Norma, brother-in-law Eugene Sommerfield, one nephew Jim and brother-in-law Dr. Edward J. Donovan.

VISITATION will begin at 4pm Friday with a 7:30pm Prayer Service all at the Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon.  Also for one hour before the time of the services at the church on Saturday.

SERVICES  Saturday, August 25, 2007 at 10:00 O ‘Clock at the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church of Langdon, ND.

INTERMENT  Calvary Cemetery, Langdon, ND.
