John Finley Ramage

John Finley Ramage passed away on December 28, 2010, in Yuma Arizona at the age of 76.

John enjoyed a full and active life; the first half in Langdon, North Dakota and the second half in Montana (Miles City and Billings) with winters in Arizona.  He married Lois Jean McDowall in 1954 and they reared three sons Kevin, Aaron, and Craig.  John was outgoing and had a wonderful zeal for life.  He served in numerous positions in church, civic organizations, and local government.  John had a passion for mechanical things especially cars, airplanes, motorcycles, and boats.  Friends and neighbors often commented that his house resembled a used car lot, which he acknowledged with a smile.  He started his business career working with his father in the CFR Garage in Langdon.  John was a lifelong entrepreneur and initiated numerous businesses including construction and operation of motels, real estate developments, and general contracting with projects in Montana, North Dakota, Wyoming, Oregon, and Arizona.  Over the course of his career, John had the opportunity to work with all three of his sons on one project or another.  John was well known for his generosity, his desire and willingness to help others, his positive attitude, and his “politically incorrect statements”.  He had a strong faith and was not afraid to take risks, knowing that the Lord is in control of all things.  John was loved by family and friends and he will be greatly missed.

John was born on March 14, 1934 in Langdon, ND to Ida (McCann) Ramage and Charles French Ramage.  He was the third of four children having two older sisters; Ada Jane Pansino and June Marie Nelson, and a younger brother; William Charles Ramage.  John is preceded in death by his parents, his sister June, and his wife Lois.  He is survived by his second wife Georgie DeGraeve, his sister Ada (Lou) Pansino, his brother William Ramage, and his three sons Kevin (Carlo), Aaron (Noni), and Craig and their families including six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in Billings (Lockwood), MT at Harvest Church – Lockwood on Monday, January 3rd at 1:00 pm.

Condolences:

We are sorry to learn of John's death.  Years ago when your family lived in Langdon and we were part of the same church family, we appreciated you all so very much. Our sympathy goes out to you and your families. May God's presence comfort you and give you peace, especially at this hard time. Richard and Marilyn McDougall

Kevin, Aaron, and Craig:

I want you to know how sadden we were to hear of your dad's death. It has been a bad year for my friends and classmates, by losing parents that we grew up with. Kevin, I don't if you remember the time that Bill and your Dad took me down and were going to cut my hair with a jack knife, scared the crap out of me but those two laughed and laughed. Your dad had a great sence of humor but his number one care was taking care of you guys. He really cared and loved you.

Take Care,

Van Howatt Family

I met John in the first grade at Langdon. He was fun, noisy and a leader. By the 4th grade I wanted him to be my boyfriend when he brought me a May Basket and kissed me on the cheek; I was captivated by his charm, free spirit and genuine laugh ever after.

John was my neighbor, friend, and employer.  I will miss him.  Thanks for your optimism John.  You never gave up on me.

John was a major influence and part of my life as far back as I can remember. As one of my dad's circle of life-long, best friends, he was part of my family and part of my growing up. Dad was really saddened and upset by the news, as well as the fact that he is in Texas and couldn't come to the memorial. I am also sorry that I couldn't make it.

Kevin, Aaron, Craig, my thoughts are with you and all your family.

So sorry to hear of the loss of such a wonderful man. 30 + years ago John was such a caring man he rented me a condo and usually had to wait for his rent money. Probably the most patient and caring person I ever knew.

Sincerely,

Guy Lund

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Ramage family. The Ramage family touched my life when my Dad (Jim) worked for the CFR Garage for Charlie Ramage.  They were a loving, Christian family and helped our family with their love.  I am still thankful for all your family did.  Blessings to you always.

Mary Ann (Koukol) Kern
