Irene Welsh

Irene Welsh, 93, of Langdon, ND passed away Tuesday November 3, 2009 at the Maple Manor Care Center of Langdon, ND


Irene Iverson was born July 15, 1916 in Minto Township, Cavalier County to Hilbert and Margrethe Solhoi Iverson and moved with her family to Harvey Township in 1919.  She graduated from LHS in 1934, attended Union Commercial College in Grand Forks and worked for a time in offices in Langdon including the WPA office.  In 1937 she was employed by the State Highway Department in Devils Lake where she worked until 1940.


Harold Welsh and Irene Iverson were married October 1, 1940 at Devils Lake.  They lived and farmed in West Hope Township and in 1941 moved to Loam Township where they lived for 22 years.  In 1963 they moved to their home in Harvey Township.  They were the parents of four children.  They moved to Langdon in 1989.  Ike passed away September 7, 2000.  Irene continued to make her home in Langdon.  She moved to Wheatland Estates for one year and then spent the last year at the Maple Manor Care Center.  Irene loved her children and grandchildren.  She enjoyed cooking and baking, especially buns.  Irene loved visiting with her family and friends.  She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Langdon.


Irene is survived by her children: Gary (Mary) Welsh of Thompson, ND; Kenneth (Carol) Welsh of Langdon, ND; Shirley (Roger) Christianson of Walhalla, ND; Sharon (Lynn) Ring of Langdon, ND, 10 grandchildren: Stacy (Pete) Schumacher of Reynolds, Mike Welsh of Thompson, Ryan (Liz) Welsh of Thompson, David (Stacey) Welsh, Sherry (Steve) Buchweitz, Kevin (Steph) Welsh all of Langdon, ND, Steven (Renae) Christianson of Rugby, Carla (Phil) Kroeber of Jamestown, Tami (Joel) Lies of Fargo, Tyler (Rebecca) Ring of Fergus Falls, 25 great-grandchildren:  Nicki, Jason (Alicia), Anna, Kya, Connor, Jessica, Kaycee, Dalton, Kayla, Andrew, Landon, Brittany, Austen, Allison, Grant, Tucker, Cole, ReeAnn, Danielle, Preston, Maren Irene, Sam, Ethan, Katelyn and Madison, brother John (Eileen) Iverson of Langdon, ND.


She was preceded in death by her husband Ike, grandson Brian Christianson, brother Howard and sisters Ella and Ella Helena.


SERVICES  1:00 O ‘Clock Friday, November 6, 2009 at the United Methodist Church of Langdon, ND.


VISITATION  Will begin at 4 with a 7pm Prayer Service at the Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon, ND on Thursday.  Visitation will also take place for one hour before the time of the services at the church on Friday.


INTERMENT  Harvey Centre Cemetery of rural Langdon, ND




Dear Welsh Family,
As you mourn the loss of one so loved, you are in my prayers and know that Irene is in the loving arms of God in the place that Jesus has prepared for all of us.

My heartfelt condolences to the family and families of Irene Welsh.  She was such a dear lady and always pleasant and interesting stories to listen to. Cherish her memories she made and hope that helps to ease the sorrow of her passing.
