Ronald Downs

Ronald Downs, 74, of Langdon, ND, passed away Monday, August 29, 2011 at Altru Hospital of Grand Forks.

Ronald was born September 17, 1936 to Roland and Evelyn (Pederson) Downs at the family farm near Langdon.  He grew up on the family farm and was educated in Moscow Township and Langdon.  Ronald was united in marriage to Margaret Ann Howatt in 1955.  They made their home on the farm near Langdon while spending their winters in Arizona. Ron and Margaret Ann farmed the homesteaded Pederson farm and the Formo farm.  Throughout his career, Ronald was also involved in Downs, Inc., Downs Trucking, Downs Oil, D and H Implement, and truly loved his farming operation.  Ron was a member of the Moscow Lutheran Church and later United Lutheran in Langdon, the Elks Club, the Eagles, the Langdon Country Club and served on the United Telephone Board of Directors.

Ron loved family gatherings at the lake, but only after the work was done!  Ron enjoyed a good round of golf and a challenging game of cribbage with friends and family. He was an avid reader with a thirst for knowledge. Ron loved to educate himself on farm, financial and world events.  He was always learning and always teaching.

Ron is survived by his wife: Margaret Ann of Langdon; children:  Cynthia (Terry) Domres of Minot, ND, Wanda (Thomas) Hogness of Milnor, ND, Denise Lysne of Devils Lake, ND, and Andrew (Nancy) Downs of Langdon, ND; grandchildren: Meagan, Lucas and Brittany Domres all of Minot, ND, Andrea (Joel) Coppin of Denver, CO, Jenica (Nate) Kent of Minneapolis, MN, Bryce Hogness of Milnor, ND, Catlan Lysne of Maddock, ND, Carley Lysne of Grand Forks, ND, Brandon (Brooke) Downs of Langdon, ND, Justin Downs of Langdon, Sarah Downs of Langdon, and Brenna Downs of Langdon; great-grandchildren: Brayden, Avery, and Rylan Coppin, Dawson Downs and Paightyn Downs, sister: Elna Mae (Gil) Herbel of Bismarck, ND; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

VISITATION will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at the Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon, ND.  Visitation will also take place for one hour before the time of the services at the church on Friday.

SERVICES will be on Friday, September 2, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church of Langdon, ND.

INTERMENT will be at Moscow Lutheran Cemetery, rural Langdon.
