Irene Weston

Irene Weston, 102, longtime Sarles resident passed away Sunday January 25,
2009 at the Maple Manor Care Center of Langdon, ND.

Irene South was born to Sept. 20, 1906 to Herbert and Ida (Schwantz) South in Minnesota. She came to the Sarles are in 1914 in a covered wagon. She attended area schools and graduated from Hannah High School in 1930. Irene was united in marriage on April 8, 1930 to Erwin Weston. Together the couple farmed in the area and settled on a farm east of Sarles in 1936 on the farm formerly known as Hunt's Hill and is now known as Weston's Hill.

Irene was an active woman within the community serving in the Eastern Star, a charter member of the Cypress Homemakers Club, and a longtime member of the Presbyterian Church of Sarles where she served on the Ladies Aid.

Despite the hard work of sowing, weeding, and harvesting Irene enjoyed many hours in her vegetable and flower gardens. She took great joy in cooking for family and friends using her home grown produce and meat and poultry raised on the farm to prepare wonderful food. A lifelong love of reading kept Irene informed and eager to discuss local state and national issues.
When kids were grown and her gardens smaller she had more time, Irene knit numerous delicately beautiful doilies.treasures!

Always, to her last days, Irene loved, cherished, cared for her family and friends.

CONDOLENCES

We are so sorry to hear of Irene's passing. She and her husband were such pillars of the Sarles/Hannah community. May God Bless them, their families and all those touched by them through these many years.   Gaylene and Lee Switzer

Auntie Irene will be missed so much. Ken and Christy still remember her wonderful meals in her Langdon apartment. She was like a 2nd Mom to me and a grandmother to our adopted children. The boys will always remember their grandpa's big sister and she will always live in my heart.

I so remember my few calls and vistits with Aunt Irene. I especially am so comforted with the phone calls when my Dad (Elmer) was dying from lung cancer. I remember her kind words of encouragement--'see you in the morning' and that always reminded me not to be sad but look forward to Dad's reuninon with Christ and with other family members. How wonderful that Aunt Irene will once again be close to her youngest brother.

May all of you continue to feel her comfort even though she has now crossed over to be with heavenly bodies.

Irene Weston was my great grandmother.I remeber many visits to her house on Saturdays and my grandparents Harold and Gail Weston would come over too. She would make us the best food and she would make me my favorite food. My mom tells me severl stories of when she was a little  girl and would go over to her house and eat cookies. I miss her dearly and think of all the memories always.
