David Field

After a courageous battle with melanoma, Dave passed away peacefully at his home on August 28, 2009.   He lives on in those who love him dearly.

David Field was born April 30, 1964 at Langdon to Lorne and Gertrude (Howatt) Field.

As he grew up in Langdon, he cultivated lifelong relationships with his loving family, his large extended family and great friends.  With many memories made, he graduated from Langdon High School in 1982 and from NDSSS in Wahpeton in 1984.  Dave moved for a short time to Mesa, AZ.  He spent many years working in the family Coast to Coast business in Langdon where he was always helpful and a warm friendly face.  He began his insurance career in 1995 when he started at the Mostad Insurance Agency.  He built his career there, achieved many career accomplishments and formed lasting friendships especially with Danny Mostad.

David was united in marriage to Tara Olson in a candlelit Christmas wedding on December 7, 1996 at the United Lutheran Church in Langdon, ND.

They made their home in Langdon and first welcomed a newborn son, Sam, to the family and within a few years, a daughter, Emma.  They continued to make their home in Langdon where they were close to their parents while they enjoyed raising their children, and building their careers. Dave has been active in the community and gave his time to many things including the Cavalier County Memorial Hospital Golf Tournament. He was a member of the Langdon Eagles Aerie # 3454, the Langdon Country Club and the United Lutheran Church of Langdon where he served on committees and helped with various functions. Dave was a talented and avid golfer, having traveled far and wide to golf.  During the winter months when he couldn’t golf, he enjoyed a good game of racquet ball. He was also a Vikings fan and enjoyed hunting, especially when he could take his son, Sam.

He is survived by his wife Tara, children Sam and Emma all at home in Langdon, parents Lorne and Gertie, sisters: Judy (Elroy) Hanson of Mahnomen, MN, Carla (Tom) Nelson of Eagan, MN, Sally (Troy) Schrader of Fargo, ND, grandmother Bessie Field of Langdon, mother and father-in-law Edwin and Sharon Olson of Langdon, sister-in-law Tami (Eric) Omdahl of St. Charles, MN, along with numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Those who have lived a good life do not fear death,
but meet it calmly, and even long for it in the face of great suffering.
It matters not how a man dies, but how he lives and he lived well
The hour of departure has arrived and we go our ways;and Dave his.
Those to whom we say farewell, are welcomed by others and with them he is on a new great road.
The life of David is now placed in the memory of the living.

Miss Me, But Let Me Go
Author Unknown

When I come to the end of the road,
and the sun has set for me.
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room.
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little—but not too long,
and not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love that was once shared.
Miss me, but let me go.

For this is a journey we all must take, and each must go alone.
It’s all a part of the master’s plan, a step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick of heart, go to the friends we know.
Bear your sorrow in good deeds. Miss me, but let me go.

You all have my deepest Sympathy

To the family of David Field,

Dave is free now and he does not have to suffer any more. He fought a battle that just wasn't to be won. Even though we will never know why we know he will be your angel and will always be watching over you. He will forever be with you in your hearts. Keep the memories alive and they will bring smiles to your faces and peace in your hearts. Dave would want that. May you lean on your family and friends during this difficult time as they will be there for you, as will God.

Tara, Sam & Emma,

Your husband and father was truly an amazing man who will be greatly missed. When I first moved to Langdon he was one of the first people to introduce me to others in the community and got me involved in community activities. Most importantly "Scrappy" was a genuine friend. I am terribly saddened at his passing, but am grateful to know that he is finally at peace and patiently waiting to see you all again one day. Take Care and God Bless.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Words don't seem adequate at a time like this. I don't have a memory of Dave where he wasn't smiling or having a bad day. His memory will continue on. The great thing about a small community is the huge heart it has. Everyone rallys around with endless support and love.
